Guided tour with an extraordinary access to the Arena.
Bypass the long lines of people waiting to enter the Colosseum and the usual skip-the-line entrance reserved to the groups and head to the other side of the building. Here you will enter through a very special and privileged access point: the “Gate of the Gladiators”, the very same entrance the Gladiators used over 2000s years ago before their bloody battles! Entering the arena, thanks to the fascinating descriptions provided by our skilled guides, you will feel like you are experiencing those events yourself, hearing the roar of the blood-thirsty crowd.
This restricted area of the Colosseum, usually out of bounds to the general public, is placed over the underground area of the Colosseum, whose dungeons once stored lions and other ferocious and exotic animals. Its central position makes it the best spot to admire this amazing building.
Your tour also involves the rest of the Colosseum. Your guide will tell you anecdotes on the exhibitions, myths and legends of the Roman history, on the Vestal Virgins and the parades of Triumph, bringing back to life these ruins and leading you to the discovery of this unique amphitheatre. You will visit the first and the second level and to a balcony with a delightful view on the Roman Forum and the Arch of Constantine. These stories will transport you back to the Ancient Rome, learning about circus games, such as “venationes” (games involving exotic animals), “noxii” (the executions of the condemned performed by wild animals) and “munera” (gladiator fights).
Next, you will visit the Palatine Hill, the centremost of the Seven Hills, where, according to the legend, Romulus founded Rome in 753 b.C. after killing his brother Remus. You will learn about the archaeological researches on the origin and history on the Latins. You will see the hut of Romulus, the House of Augustus, the private hippodrome of Domitian e much more.
Finally, you will go to the Roman Forum, the core of Ancient Rome. As you stumble across marketplaces and temples, were the Romans lived their social, religious and political life. Your guide will tell you about the murder of Julius Caesar and show you the spot where his body was cremated.
Step back in time to Ancient Rome and be a Gladiator for a day!
